In “Back to the Future 2”, Marty McFly, the main character, escapes from the villain’s minions and takes the hoverboard from him. A hoverboard is a board that floats in the air by using a magnetic field. It looks and functions like a skateboard but the hoverboard does not have wheels. He has two anti-gravitation instead of four wheels. This word can also be translated as a gyro-scooter in the UK.
Is a gyroscope a hoverboard?
A hoverboard and a hoverboard are very different. Hoverboards are like a Segway with no steering wheel. They are a platform with wheels. The electric motors of the wheels and the balance are controll by gyroscopes. They are powered by the body’s force. This means that you must shift or lose weight in the direction you want to go.

As in the movie “Back to the Future 2”, hoverboards production is becoming more common. Hendro, a company that uses crowdfunding to raise money for the production of the first hoverboards, was the pioneer. Their prototype, however, is powere only by magnets and can hover only over iron surfaces.
Lexus was the last company to make hoverboards it uses liquid nitrogen-cool superconductors the superconductors are place within a magnetic field that completely displaces the bulk of their superconductor. The magnetic pillow allows the hoverboard to hang in the air thanks to this.
These prototypes won’t made into mass production anytime soon and they are not available for rent, Marty McFly was able to ride his hoverboards wherever he wanted, without the need for nitrogen cooling or a metal floor beneath his feet. We can’t buy a hoverboards that allows us to float in the air but we do need vehicles with wheels.
Modern hoverboards with wheels
Modern engineering saves the day with the creation of a hoverboard that has a wheel. The Hoverboard E-Wheel is an example of this hoverboard. It’s driven by an electric motor and is similar to the one seen in the movies. The hoverboards can be used on any surface and accelerates up to 18 km/h. It charges from a standard outlet in 60 minutes. There is also a backlight at its edges e-Wheel allows you to buy a Russian hoverboard and ride it on the streets.
The future is closer than you think. We didn’t know much about electric scooters, hoverboards, or segways until recently. Science fiction movies were the only source of information about hoverboards. These fantasies are now real, and anyone can afford a hoverboard.
