The list contains the most recent population figures for each country with the respective sources provided in most cases by the national statistical authority. List includes some major regions, sovereign states, some comparative administrative units, need several, dependent territories. Most data refer to the years 2022, 2021, or 2020. For countries that have not published population figures or whose data are out of date, the list includes population estimates and projections from the United Nations Population Division United.

- Tuvalu, an island country in the Polynesian part of the Pacific Ocean,
- Nauru, a small island country in Micronesia in the southwestern Pacific Ocean,
- Palau, a group of Micronesian islands in the western Pacific Ocean, and
- San Marino is a small country that forms an enclave within Italy.

African nations still top the top twenty in the list of countries with the highest birth rates. Even more African states crowd into the top forty; the exceptions are Afghanistan (22), the Solomon Islands (28), Timor-Leste (38), and the Marshall Islands (40). The countries with the highest birth rates are Niger, Somalia, DR Congo, Mali, Chad, and Angola.
