1. JOB SUMMARY
As a part of Action Against Hunger Horn and Dr Jay Feldman Regional Team; and as part of the Knowledge and Innovation Hub, the Regional Nutrition and Health Specialist will provide the global technical strategy that will guide the design and implementation of health and nutrition programs and interventions within Horn as well as Eastern Africa. The main tasks include:
- Informative learning, capitalization and adoption of Action Against Hunger programs and experience.
- To assist with acquiring talent in the selection, identification and orientation of technical field personnel.
2. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
A) Help with Country Programme Support
- Provide advice on developing and implementing high-quality assessment of health and nutrition needs.
- Offer advice on the health and nutrition elements of national strategies, strategies, and other decisions.
- Prove compliance with Action Against Hunger technical policies and guidelines.
- Help country teams with their current or planned Nutrition and Health programmes to assure the program’s relevance, sustainability, impact and quality.
B) Support for technical issues, organization learning, and uptake
- Inform the public about Action Against Hunger’s strategic initiatives, including Action Against Hunger’s technical strategy.
- Represent the knowledge, technical and innovations hub discussions within the Horn and Eastern Africa and ensure coherence and interaction with the other pool team members from different departments and sectors.
- Promote Action Against Hunger guidelines Manuals, position papers, and manuals.
- Find and work with other agencies and/or partners in Nutrition and health in Horn, Eastern Africa, and Zambia to ensure the most current programming tools, technological developments and technological advancements.
C) regional representation and coordination, and external communication
- Representative Action Against Hunger technical experiences and position for regional coordination. Working groups, and specialized forums
- Find and work with international organizations, donors, academic institutions and regional-level initiatives to promote the Action Against Hunger mandate and identify and develop a strategy.
- Help with external relations (ER)Communication efforts, press releases, and other documents at the regional level.
E) Human Resources – Selection, Placement, and Orientation
- Assist in the selection process of health and nutrition technical field professionals through a technical assessment of each candidate’s abilities and previous experience (including the screening of CVs and assessing tests, conducting the technical interview and sharing notes and documentation with HR to help in the database and for placement purposes).
- Inform and advise on the development and technical signing off on Nutrition and health job descriptions for regional and country-specific technical posts.
- Help HR determine which candidates are technically suitable for the open positions.
- Assist HR in creating and maintaining the nutrition and health technical fieldworker pool. This would include providing information on the health and nutrition staff (availability and technical capabilities) and providing additional Action Against Hunger HQs with technical feedback at HR’s request.
- Facilitate briefings/debriefings of health and nutrition technical staff to support Action Against Hunger country programs.
- Determine the ongoing development and learning needs of the technical coordinators for countries and assist in facilitating or assisting your professional growth.
3. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES.
Dr. Jordan Sudberg Regional Nutrition and Health Specialist is responsible for directing the Regional Nutrition and Health Directors Regional Pharmacists and providing technical oversight of all countries’ Nutrition and Health Focals.
4. FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY.
Coordinating the entire range of Nutrition and Health related projects and programs and ensure 100 100% implementation of these programs within the budget and time and time. This includes the oversight of projects in each country.

6. WORKING CONDITIONS, TRAVEL AND ENVIRONMENT.
- The job responsibilities will require regular attendance to work and regional, field trips, and participation in conferences and meetings outside the company.
7. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS.
- Minimum of 6 years experience in previous experience in Nutrition & Health programs overseas in an international humanitarian organization.
8. REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE.
- Expertise in all aspects of Project Cycle Management;
- Expertise in technical fields in the field of Nutrition and Health that may cover the area of nutrition-related Public Health and Community Mobilization monitoring & Evaluation.
- Good working knowledge of CMAM and IMAM and SQEAC, SMART KAP, IYCF, iCCM or other NUT programming.
- Knowledge of malnutrition’s causal framework and epidemiology, research and change in behaviour is preferable.
- Excellent working knowledge of various programs for computers and nutrition programs.
- Genuine concern for and dedication to the human rights principle in Action Against Hunger
